Screw you, little guy

Is it surprising that brokerage firms are quietly moving their clients' cash from money-market mutual funds -- the traditional default option -- into lower-yielding bank accounts?
Wall Street Cuts Yields on Investors' Cash
Personally, I park my cash in ING. I don't trade stocks and only buy mutual funds from Vanguard. Yes, In Vanguard I Trust, as I always said.

Millionaire nextdoor, eh, not quite yet

Ok, I often hear the phrase 'Millionaire nextdoor'. I didn't expect to happen to me. But it seems happening. The house "nextdoor" is selling at $1.675 million. And Globe has a write-up about it. I so look forward to seeing the new owner, that is, of course, if it is sold. It's been on the market for more than a month by now.

Pivotal point

Israel's withdrawal from Gaza and the northern West Bank will prove to be a pivotal point, at least for me. Up to this point, I have been sympathetic to Palestinian and critical of Israel. Now that Israel has made a great peaceful gesture. Yes, Palestinians should celebrate, but they should also start the peace process and rein in Hamas. Sharon has shown the world and convinced at least me that he's serious about peace. Abbas has to show the same thing. I am disappointed that Abbas said Gaza withdrawal only 1st step, but nothing about what he would do about Hamas.

Misinformation

A post at popyard.org tried to show that US government buildings are old and in bad shape as compared to the modernized Chinese government buildings. The intention is good that it tried to remind Chinese government to be frugal and learn from US government that taxpayers' money should be spent with great caution. However, the picture is wrong. This picture is supposed to show Massachusetts state house. I don't know about others, but I sure know MA state house is like this. Yeah, unfortunately, it's pretty luxurious with gold dome, real gold, eh?

Fed going to far? Not yet.

3.5%, a neutral point.
Alan Greenspan is generally admired as a genius. But don't forget he's also this crazy guy who raised or dropped interest rate several times more when clear stop signs were already in place. It's not too bad up to this point. And there's no indication that Alan will give up. But he's going out too. He can stay up to next Jaunary. That leaves him two more opportunities to raise rates, October and December. So his legacy is going to be 4%. I hope his successor will take a breather to evaluate first, because by then, I think, it will be pretty tight monetary policy.

No good deed goes unpunished

On friday, I was on a row. And I get my punishment.
A big thunderstorm swept Medway on friday around 5-6PM.
My house was struck by a tree. I had tree services removed
it and it costs $1200. The insurance adjustor came today.
Here's a piece in the news. Apparently, Medway is hardest
hit area.

Humbled? I think NOT

Scrapping nukes vital for human survival-ElBaradei
Quote--
"We should remain humbled by what we have learned from the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki," said ElBaradei, whose agency polices the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), the global pact against the spread of nuclear weapons.

Humbled? What about we remain humbled by the atrocities done by the Japanese? What about we remain humbled about the rape and massacre of Nanjing? How many are killed by the A-bomb? 140,000. How many are killed in NanJiang? 200,000. Need I say more?

BaiDu, hundred degrees, that's right.

Boy, I'm on a roll here.
